How might we create the perfect travel itinerary builder, with social elements and niche travel data?
Develop an app that allows users to control all the details of their travels, share those details with their friends, and save their trips for future reference.
About
What is Travelog?
Travelog is a travel companion app that allows users to design and build their own personalized travel itineraries, with niche travel details, that can shared to friends and viewed on a social feed.

Our research showed that about 23% of Americans don't travel but would like to if given the right tools and opportunities (Pew Research Center). In 2023, over 850 million people used some kind of travel app, showing the growing interest in travel companion apps that make travel more accessible (Adamo Software). Travel app users have also shown they want the ability to generate itineraries, track their trips in real-time, and engage with friends through social features. On top of this, approximately 70% of traveler's prefer personalized recommendations based on their previous travels and their travel preferences. 30% of users have also shown interest in AI integration, especially Milllenials and Gen Z travelers.
Problem Statement
What problem is Travelog solving?
Solution
How will Travelog solve the problem?
Many travelers report complex booking problems, lack of personalization, difficulty sharing travel information with travel friends, difficulty accessing information, safety and security concerns, difficulty managing travel disruptions, and language barriers as their major pain points while traveling.
Travelog hopes to address the pain points mentioned above by consolidating user travel data into one app, crowd-sourcing niche travel data to personalize and make more precise the travel experience, all while allowing users to share their itineraries so that more people are able to travel with more peace of mind.
Step 1
Empathize - User Research & Competitive Analysis
Our first step was to conduct research in order to empathize with our users, followed by identifying and analyzing competitors that have addressed some or all of the wants, needs, and pain points we discovered in our findings, so that we can better address our own users wants, needs, and pain points.
User Research - Summary

850 Million
Travel app users (as of 2023)
2.7 Billion
Downloads (2020)
3 Billion
Downloads (2023)

% of American travelers that would like to travel if given the right tools
% of travelers that prefer personalized travel experiences
Large user interest, with downloads increasing by 11% over 4 years
Step 2
Define - User Personas & Journey Map
The next step is to identify who our users are, what they represent, and what they want and need from the product we are making. This will then inform our understanding of the user's journey while using our product.
Step 3
Ideate - User Flow & Storyboards
Now we get to brainstorm the "routes" a user will take when using our product. This will result in a network of connections, between these routes, lays the foundation for our overall design process.
